Sri Lanka’s south coast

Ahangama

A tropical base between quiet inland nature, surf beaches, coastal culture and the historic city of Galle.

The setting around us

Close enough to explore. Peaceful enough to retreat.

Zenki House is set in the Ahangama area on Sri Lanka’s southern coast. The house feels tucked into the landscape, where palms, birds, monkeys and peacocks are part of everyday life, yet beaches and the changing energy of the coast remain within easy reach.

Ahangama gives retreat leaders useful contrast. A group can spend most of the programme quietly at the house, then add a surf session, beach afternoon or visit to Galle without turning the retreat into a complicated journey.

Beyond the house

Let the south coast become part of the retreat.

Beaches

Plan an easy change of scenery with time beside the Indian Ocean and nearby sandy beaches.

Surf

Add beginner-friendly guidance or sessions for experienced surfers through local instructors.

Galle

Visit the UNESCO-listed Old Town of Galle and its fortifications for history, walking and a different pace.

Local food

Explore south-coast cafés and restaurants, or keep the group together with meals at the house.

Nature journeys

Build in a waterfall, wildlife or safari excursion when the retreat has time for a longer day out.

Creative south coast

Ahangama’s growing community brings together wellness, movement, food, design and surf culture.

Getting here

A private arrival can be arranged from the airport.

The journey is approximately one hour and forty-five minutes, depending on traffic and the arrival point. Transfer details are confirmed personally for each group.

Questions, answered

Good to know before you enquire.

Every retreat is personalised, but these answers cover the questions most groups ask first.

Is the house directly on the beach?

No. It sits in a greener inland setting near Ahangama, giving the retreat privacy and nature while keeping the coast accessible.

Can guests reach the beach during free time?

Local transport can be arranged. The best option depends on the group, schedule and preferred beach.

Should we include Galle in the programme?

It can be a meaningful cultural change of pace, but it is optional. The retreat can also remain fully centred at the house.

Can Zenki House arrange transport for excursions?

Yes. Drivers and suitable vehicles can be coordinated once the itinerary and group size are known.
